We are pleased to offer Local Northamptonshire Honey

Can local honey help seasonal allergy suffers?

Our honey is produced by a bee-keeper a few miles from Lodge Farm near Geddington, Northants and is much in demand. One of the main reasons for this is the widely held view that local honey can alleviate the symptoms of seasonal allergies, most commonly hayfever and allergic rhinitis. All these symptoms are the human body’s reaction to the pollen spores in the air during the spring and summer months.

The evidence for honey’s role in reducing symptoms is all anecdotal since there have been no conclusive scientific findings. One of the main theories says that because honey contains very small amounts of the allergens that produce the symptoms, by taking a small daily amount, you gradually build up your body’s tolerance to these allergens.

The theory concludes that eventually the symptoms are greatly reduced. Of course, there’s a lot more information to be found on the Web – just try Googling for “local honey and allergies”.

Remember: honey is a natural product and can produce an allergic reaction in some people, so if in doubt seek professional advice. Honey is also not recommended for children under 12 months of age.
